The museum of decorative arts celebrates the 1980s with a major exhibition in the nave. This historic decade resonates in France as a political and artistic turning point in fashion, design and graphics, from the election of François Mitterrand in 1981 to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
The exhibition is organised around three themes, a new political and cultural era, design in full swing and the look of the 1980s, reflecting the great telescope of thoughts and forms during this decade.
The design section is located in the heart of the nave. In this period of enthusiasm, the designer of the 1980s mixed several aesthetics, as did the fashion world. In this section, you can see an incredible variety of structured, vibrantly coloured clothing designs from the eighties, which are displayed alongside and echoing with the home designs.
The 1980s marked the beginning of global visual communication in which the world and society would continue to be constructed and evolve. The visual communication landscape in France was experiencing a real golden age with the emergence of independent designers and the development of advertising and marketing.
The exhibition is like an archive of the 1980s, taking us through a dazzling visual explosion of newspapers, posters and advertisements from that era. The colours and shapes of the images create a strong language that conveys to us the social ideas and trends of the time, about peace, about life, about asking questions about the future of humankind and reflecting on history.

Graphic designer, editor, art director, teacher and collector, Étienne Robial has left his mark on the French audiovisual landscape over the last 50 years by inventing the concept of television packaging and producing, in particular, those for french TV channels Canal+ and M6.
The exhibition recreates his graphic universe by combining his professional projects with pieces from his personal collection (books, art objects, lighting, unusual utensils, etc.), in a scenography by Kevin Lebouvier. Here you can find the posters, drawings, videos, books and furniture from this prolific and eclectic creator.
If you are a fan of art and design, especially graphic design and comics, the Museum of Decorative Arts is a must-see place for you!
O'BONPARIS'S NOTE
Do not be conscious of people's gaze, let's freely appreciate the exhibition as you would in a way that does not undermine it.
