Since the 20th Century, New York Cafe served as the most beautiful coffee house in Budapest. However, after World War II, the cafe was destroyed and was served as a sports goods shop instead of the main purpose of being a coffee house. It was just like that until it was renovated and reopened again in 1954 under the new name, "Hungaria". Until 2006 that they restored their original name, becoming New York Cafe once again.
Right at the moment when you stepped into New York Cafe, you will feel just like you are in the palace, which is true. New York Cafe is actually a part of a luxury hotel, New York Palace Budapest (now Boscolo Budapest) which was built in an Italian Renaissance-style; first opened on 23rd October 1894, over 120 years. Situated on the Grand Boulevard of Budapest's Erzsébet körút part in the 7th district of Budapest.
Many of you might have heard of the famous film "The Grand Budapest Hotel" by an American filmmaker, Wes Anderson. Having said that this is one of the several grand hotels in Budapest that have been inspired Anderson for the making of this film.
At New York Cafe, there are sorts of dishes and dessert to choose from. Starting from an appetizer, main dish, dessert, and drinks. The menu is bilingual with Hungarian and English languages. There are many dishes that were recommended by New York Cafe such as Beef Goulash, Fishermen Soup, Chicken Leg Paprikash-style, Wiener Schnitzel, and Grilled Foie Gras. These classic dishes are always advised to take it with the famous desserts such as Dobos, Sacher, and Eszterházy cake. Today we will try merely desserts selected from several of them on the menu.
The soft and smooth vanilla cream was covered by berries sauce with fresh Strawberries and Blueberries and a little bit of chocolate sponge under it. Gives a very fresh and delicate taste, refresh you from a tiring day.
Chocolate cake served on top of the soft cracker, topped with Apricot jelly. With the sweetness of chocolate in contrast with the sourness of Apricot jelly, mixed well together to convey the sweet and sour taste.
Strudel is originally come from Austria and became famous among Central and Eastern European countries. Strudel is a type of layered pastry with different filling such as cheese Curd, apple, berries, or sorts of fruits, usually sweet. Strudel selection at New York Cafe comes in 3 pieces selected by the chef.
New York Cafe is very famous among tourists and is always crowded, reservation in advance is highly recommended. Visit their official website at www.newyorkcafe.hu and reserve the table in advance to avoid the queue. After you finish your meal, you will see that on the menu there are 2 currencies stated under each dishes, you can either choose to pay in Euro (EUR) or Hungarian Forint (HUF). We recommend you pay in HUF as it is cheaper compared to EUR.
