 INTRO

If you have the opportunity to visit Strasbourg, you should not miss the chance to try tasty Alsatian food at Gurtlerhoft restaurant. Right in front of Strasbourg Cathedral, Gurtlerhorf is at the very center of Strasbourg's old town. The building dates back to the Middle Age (12th century), and was first inhabited by priests working at the Cathedral.

ATMOSPHERE

The restaurant is in the cellar of the building. The ceiling is like in a church, because of the history of the building.

The place is warm and welcoming, you really feel like you are in a cocoon. Even though it can be a bit noisy, the restaurant is very lively and has a friendly,"like home" atmosphere. The dishes are served in nicely decorated traditional plates.

WHAT TO EAT

Alsatian food is unique, because of the history of the region. Indeed, Alsace is at the crossroads of Europe, and has always been a Gateway between southern Europe (France) and Northern Europe (Germany). The Alsatian food is very similar to German food, but has also received influences from French food. There are a lot of traditional Alsatian dishes to try at Gurtlerhoft. You could taste for example their Flammekueche (squared traditional pizza topped with cream, onions and bacon) or Waedels (roasted pork knuckle, above photo).

If you love desserts, it will be hard for you to choose among all their specialties. We particularly recommend their "crème brulée", a rich custard flavored with vanilla and citrus, topped with a crunchy layer of hard caramel.

We also enjoyed the "Kouglof glacé au coulis de fruits": the Kouglof is a local crown-shaped brioche. The Chef created an ice cream based on the Kouglof recipe. It is served with a fruit coulis and handmade whipped cream.

O'BON PARIS' NOTE

The menu changes regularly according to the season, so do not hesitate to ask for the “Plat du jour”. It’s highly recommended to book during the weekends, and in December (Christmas Market period).
