Traveling in a big city like Paris is very exciting, but sometimes we miss the unique atmosphere and nature of southern Europe. If you want to feel the taste of Southern Europe in the heart of Paris, MamaSens, the newly open restaurant in Galeries Lafayette, is highly recommended.
Mama is an Italian word for “Mother”. Mediterranean mothers are well known for a signature generosity and undeniable impact they create upon their family and friends. Italian Mamas are also known as ones among best cooks when it comes to Mediterranean culinary arts as by having very first tastes, diners will instantly sense a great love they put into making these dishes.
You can have lunch on site around a central bar and watch the cooks meticulously prepare the dishes in their kitchen for the greatest pleasure of the eyes and especially taste buds. Take-out is also available for customers who want to take home the unique and delicious experience of Mama Sens.
MamaSens Galeries Lafayette was inaugurated few months ago by the brothers Jacques and Laurent Pourcel. This Michelin-starred twin Chefs’ new restaurant was designed like a journey around the Mediterranean (Provence, Italy, Greece, Near East, Northern Africa…), common thread of all their inspirations, in a universe that knows how to rhyme conviviality, authenticity and simplicity.
Fresh ingredients drive there simple, modern approach in the kitchen where the focus is on flavors authenticity, and the reinterpretation of iconic recipes. Mama Sens embraces the Mediterranean diet not just as a culinary mode but as a lifestyle. Here are some of the dishes we tried there:
If you want to try a typical southern fish dish, this plate is for you. The celery puree served with it is very original and delicious. Mango-based sauce and tomato add elegance and freshness.
Tartar, along with Italian carpaccio, is one of the most popular Southern European-style dishes. Made from very fresh premium beef, this tartare has a very good flavor and texture. The sauce is also sweet. It comes to the table with an avalanche of some of the delicious French fries.
Lamb is often used in Mediterranean cuisine. It was utterly delicious, melt in the mouth and full of flavor
In this restaurant, you can taste the sweet desserts of Carl Marletti, a famous pastry chef that worked at a 5-star Grand Hôtel Intercontinental and now owns a trendy pastry shop in the 5th arrondissement. Carl Marletti likes to taste the riches of travel and soak up his encounters to imagine his new creations. The pastries change often, according to the seasons.
Millefeuille means “a thousand leaves” in French, at this a traditional pastry, that Carl Marletti revisited. the fresh fruit and sweet cream in between the pastries are in perfect harmony.
With this red fruits tart, you will see the perfection. The fruits were perfectly sweet, the custard is the right amount of sweetness and consistency.
