Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg The castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg is an ancient castle of the 12th century, deeply remodelled in the 15th century located in the commune of Orschwiller in France. It's a major tourist site, attracting more than 500,000 visitors a year.
Since its construction in the 12th century, the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle has been a constant witness to both European conflicts and rivalry between lords, kings, and emperors.
A number of illustrious owners each left their mark on the castle's history, and successive events even led to changes in the castle's structure.
Although rebuilt in the 19th century as a replica of the original castle situated on the same spot, Haut-Koenigsbourg offers a unique and indeed authentic impression of castle life led during the middle ages.
It was built in the 12th century as a key honour to monitor the silver, salt, wine, and wheat trade routes. After it was destroyed in the war, it was rebuilt by Wilhelm II in 1899 when the Alsace region became German territory.
Various bows, spears, swords and so on are stored as a collection in the weapon room, along with mural paintings of the Renaissance era.There is an impressive collection of weaponry from the Middle Ages in the basement with crossbows, all types of swords and armour.

The castle close's 45 minutes after the ticket office in the evening. And it is opened all year round, except on 1st January, 1st May, 25th December.
