Jacquemart-Andre museum is located very nearby Champs-Élyées. It was a big house of the husband and wife, Edouard Andre and Nelie Jacquemart, and now it is used as a museum. Eduard Andre was a rich banker in 19th century, and collected a wide range of artworks and jewelries.
At Jacquemart-Andre museum, you can see how the luxurious life was in 19th century. It truly leads you to the past with its wide range of collections and luxurious decorations. From small jewelries to furniture and paintings, they are still shining in this beautiful museum house.
LE GRAND SALON
It was a place to welcome guests, connected with the painting room and music hall. When there are many guests for big parties, they removed partitions between this living room, painting rooom, and music hall to make it a larger place which can take up to 1,000 guests. Furniture in this room is with Regence style from 18th century.
LE CABINET DE TRAVAIL
Edouard Andre and Nelie Jacquemart used to organize their daily life and greet guests. They decorated this place with their prescious paintings of Fragonard and Greaze and also their favorite furniture. The painting in the frame on the desk is the portrait of Nelie Jacquemart.
SALON DE MUSIQUE
This is the place used as living room and music hall. When they dance with guests or hold concerts, it was mainly held here. You can see the second Empire style from dark wooden furniture and red walls. The paintings hung on walls in this room bring you back to 18th century.
LE JARDIN D'HIVER
At winter garden, you can see the new art style developed during Napoleon III. Under the ceilings made of glasses, green plants create exotic atmosphere. Right next to the winter garden, there are marble stairs which make this place even more marvelous.
L’ESCALIER
Normally, they install the stairs in the middle of the apartment. But here, the stairs are installed at the end of the apartment. When you go up this shiny marble stairs, you can see the big mirror installed to make the illusion, making the place bigger. Andre also installed the big Fresco by Giambittista Tiepolo which complete this amazing place.
MUSEE ITALIEN - LA SALLE DES SCULPTURES
This place was made for Nelie Jacquemart to work on her drawings. However, she gave up her personal work to fully support her husband. So this room was used to keep the collection from Italy. There are 3 rooms connected with various artworks from Florence and Venice.
CHAMBRE DE MADAME
When you go to another side from the painting room at the entrance, you can see their private apartment place. This room was used by Nelie Jacquemart, decorated with the style of Louis XV period.
There is a beautifully decorated cafe as well where you can simply sit down to enjoy light meals, sunday brunch, or just coffee or tea. You can rent a free audio guide in English, French, German, etc to help you to understand deeply about their life and each place.
